As IAM celebrates 30 years of being a constructive religious voice in Africa, we spoke to some of our cherished friends and allies who have partnered with the organisation over the years.

This week, we hear from Rev. Nitano Muller – Canon for Worship and Welcome at Coventry Cathedral, UK.

My first encounter with IAM was at theological college, when we explored human sexuality through contextual bible and other IAM resources developed to recognise and celebrate LGBTIQA+ person’s within faith communities.

This experience impacted me deeply and transformed my own experience of faith and encouraged me to own my own space within the Church. It was not long before I was embedded in IAMs work, both in my local Parish were I served and within my denomination.

I partnered with allies to create safe spaces for LGBTQIA+ ordinands and clergy within the Anglican Church and advocate for full inclusion within the life of the Church.  This was not the easiest of journey’s, but certainly an enriching one.

I later joined IAM’s Board and I remain committed to journeying with faith communities as they become spaces of welcome and affirmation, and I continue that work in my current role, where I now serve in the Church of England as Canon for Worship and Welcome at Coventry Cathedral.
