IAM works collaboratively
with two programmatic areas:
Faith Partnerships and
Civil Society Partnerships.
Faith Partnerships Programme
Our vision can’t be realised without sustained and deliberate collaboration with Chrisitian faith communities. To this end, we work in collaborative partnership with churches, universities, and seminaries to facilitate conversation, encourage research, and develop resources around the intersections of gender, sexuality, and religion.
Civil Society Partnerships Programme
Much of the work we do to interrogate and reform oppressive systems has already begun through the work of community and grassroots activism. It’s important that we journey together with the individuals and organisations already doing the work of advancing more affirming policies and curricula, advocating for increased access for LGBTIQ+ people to socio-economic, health, and protection services, and accompanying LGBTIQ+ people and their families and friends on their journeys.
With both our faith and civil society partners, we work toward greater inclusion and the celebration of LGBTIQ+ people through trainings, presentations, resource development and capacity building on sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, and sex characteristics (SOGIESC), as well as differing interpretations of sacred texts. Our work helps our partners to open minds, hearts and doors, growing in their self-esteem, courage and ability to join IAM as an alternative, constructive religious voice.

OPEN MINDS
RAISING AWARENESS
IAM lobbies and engages people on all levels of faith community to raise their awareness of diversity regarding sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, and sex characteristics, interpretation of sacred texts, and to re-examine their beliefs and attitudes toward LGBTIQ+ people.
OPEN HEARTS
CREATING SAFE SPACES FOR DIALOGUE ENCOUNTERS
IAM engages a wide variety of individuals in different types of brave dialogue spaces and other trainings in which people are exposed to experiences from people different to themselves.
OPEN DOORS
EMPOWERING CHANGE AGENTS TO TAKE CONCRETE ACTION
IAM encourages allies to commit to creative interventions that include LGBTIQ+ people in order to move towards change and transformation in religious communities, becoming themselves the catalysts for change.
