As IAM celebrates 30 years of being a constructive religious voice in Africa, we spoke to some of our cherished friends and allies who have partnered with the organisation over the years.

This week, we hear from Pastor Xana McCauley.

During 40 years of ministry at Rhema Bible Church North, I sought answers to what seemed to be a disconnect between what I read in my Bible and what I heard being preached about the presence of LGBTQ+ community members in our church services.

IAM provided me with invaluable resources, which I shared with colleagues and the senior pastor, as well as support in the form of workshops and teachings to community members and religious leaders from various denominations.

Presently, I’m the convener of a group of Christian clergy and spiritual leaders who belong to, or are allies of the LGBTQ+ community. We meet monthly to support, encourage and learn from one another.
