The Vulnerability Exercise, initially developed by Hanzline Davids, currently based at Unisa, and primarily facilitated by Thuli Mjwara, draws on the extensive internalization of shame, guilt, and vulnerability research done by Dr. Brene Brown. The exercise guides participants through a creative process whereby, during a course of the day, to reflect on their own understanding and experiences of vulnerability through drawing. Ultimately the exercise aims to collectively think through what accompaniment and care means in our personal and collective experiences whilst positioning us at the margins for a deepened understanding of shame alongside those who face marginalization within our communities and faith spaces.
