History of Networking, Visibilty and Outreach

  • IAM participated in 24 national radio programmes, 5 regional radio talk shows and 2 national television interviews.
  • Regional and national newspapers  have frequently covered our work or asked for comment on related issues. Three feature articles have appeared in separate major magazines.
  • IAM has networked with and participated in, programmes and/or events organized by the Equality Project  (formerly the National Coalition for Gay and Lesbian Equality) in South Africa; The Triangle Project  in Cape Town; The Rainbow Project (TRP) of Namibia
  • IAM networked with the traditional black Churches in the township of Gugulethu and is presently running support groups for LGBTI people there.
  • More than 10,000 information leaflets in support of the LGBTI community have been distributed via the Triangle Project, by mail drops and in local bars and clubs.
  • IAM’s newsletter, covering a wide range of topics, for the past 5 years annually reached over 1000 individuals. We know hope that our new website will increase this visibility
  • IAM made two written and four verbal submissions to the Portfolio Committees of Parliament dealing with the same-sex marriage Bill.
